Siddhārtha Gautama was a spiritual teacher and the founder of Buddhism.
Mahākāśyapa was one of the principal disciples of Gautama and convened and directed the first council after his leader's death.
Ashoka the Great was the Mauryan Emperor between 273-232 BCE and who finally had the empire converted to Buddhism after his conquest in the Kalinga War.
Mahinda was a Buddhist monk who brought buddhism to Sri Lanka. He was the son of Ashoka. Kanishka was the emperor of the Kushan empire who convened the fourth and final council and gathered 500 monks to attend it around 100 CE.

Hum. Its fairly easy to draw a line between the Siddhartha mentioned here, and the Siddhartha we are reading about. However, unless i've misunderstood something, Buddhism already exists in the novel Siddhartha...they cannot be the same person. I'll be interested to see where the book goes.
Yeah I was wondering about the novel because Buddhism already exisited, but it would be interesting to learn about this Siddhartha and how he is different from the founder Siddhartha. Double Bubble map?
I did not know what to think about the book at first, I was confused because Buddhism already exists. I am enjoying the book, and nice blog.
