Modern Day Buddhism

In today’s world, stress is so prevalent that more and more people are beginning to turn to the peaceful philosophic beliefs of Buddhism. People are interested in learning how to rid themselves of stress and anxiety, and finding a better way to live through meditation and deepening their spiritual foundation.

While Buddhism in some parts of China seems to be erasing, it is booming in many large cities. It is practiced across the world. Today, there are over 400,000 monks and about 10,000 nuns. The Buddhists feel that this number is increasing. In the U.S. currently, there are over 100 Buddhist centers. Buddhism is constantly growing and becoming more popular by the day.

Nice summary Jack, but some of the stats I could not find on the cited source, e.g. the number of monks and nuns. Maybe that was in one of the other sections of the source. You can include more than one hot link per post. You can even hot link text like the stats and then have person go to that original source.

I think the semi-philosophical nature of Buddhism makes it easily adaptable to modern life. A person could adopt Buddhist views (without completely accepting it as their religion) and gain benefits from things like meditation and the Buddhist moral code. Whereas many religions obsess about elaborate ceremonies, Buddhism seems more of a way of life, which I think makes it more fulfilling and helpful.

True, stress is an increasing factor that affects our world very much, and that would make someone turn to Buddhism due to its relatively positive and free-flowing nature. With not so much pressure, Buddhism could be a good way today for many to experience spiritual growth.

It's really interesting that Buddhism in China is decreasin while in other parts all over the world it is become more and more popular. I really wonder why this is happening.
